Student Spotlight: Josh Kemp

Updated: Jun 25

We asked Josh about his experience on the Designer Development Course.

He says:

"I've had a varied career, starting off as a mechanic and then moving into design engineering, for a range of electric vehicle start-ups, and now as a product developer for SharkNinja, but I have always enjoyed art and being more creative so I had a desire to expand my skill set and so I enrolled at LFDS. I initially picked LFDS because it is so close to where I live, but after meeting the team I knew that I wanted to enrol here. The mentoring I receive from all of the tutors has been incredible and allowed me to progress not only in my work, but how I think and communicate as a designer.
I have a real passion for motorbikes and surfing, and have started my own brand centred around this, as well as carrying out logo design for a motorbike adventure company. I'm also heavily inspired by Japanese design, especially the wabi-sabi concept of embracing imperfection. My aim is to be a multi-disciplined designer with my own aesthetic and a sustainability centred design ethos, upcycling and reusing pieces wherever I can."

It's a pleasure to have Josh learning with us and supporting him in building his graphic design career. We look forward to seeing his future successes.
