Maker Spotlight: Martha Freud

Martha Freud, a British-born artist, established her namesake studio in 2008. Her practice finds its roots in an appreciation of life's highs and lows, ranging from moments of levity to those of great depth. Her love for simplicity, organic shapes and traditional, time-consuming techniques is reflected in everything she creates. Martha's passion for her craft extends beyond her home studio as she fills the rest of her house, located in East London near London Fields, with her exquisite ceramic work.

The artist is renowned for the witty mottos inscribed on her pieces, which range from light panels and plates to scented candles. To workshop the text, Martha covers the walls of her home studio with Post-it notes scribbled with slogans such as 'What doesn't kill you makes you weird at parties' and 'I've got 99 problems, but I'm not dealing with any of them.'

We're huge fans of Martha's work. We're honoured to have such talent on our doorstep in London Fields.
